Faith And The City and a multi-faith collaboration of 20 area houses of worship joined together to sponsor "Where Peachtree Meets Sweet Auburn," a public forum for Atlanta mayoral candidates, Oct. 15, at noon in Woodruff Park, downtown Atlanta. The forum -- a celebration of the metro area's diverse communities of faith and the nation's democratic traditions -- featured remarks by former mayor, Rev. Andrew Young, and gospel music by the Cathedral Singers from the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit.
During the event, which drew several hundred people, mayoral candidates addressed their visions of community for the Atlanta metropolitan region. Rev. Steve Goyer of Covenant Presbyterian Church and Rabbi Brett Isserow of The Temple delivered the invocation and benediction, respectively, and Imam Plemon T. El-Amin of the Atlanta Masjid of Al-Islam offered a prayer for the city. Rev. Barbara Lewis King of Hillside Chapel and Truth Center served as mistress of ceremonies. Houses of worship incurred no costs for their participation.
