Atlanta Jewish Film Festival expands 2008 dates, venues

The Atlanta Jewish Film Festival (AJFF) announced today new dates and venues for its annual showcase of outstanding international and independent films. The 8th Annual Atlanta Jewish Film Festival will run from January 16-27, 2008, expanding from 7 to 12 days. Screenings will take place at the Regal Atlantic Station Stadium 16 and Lefont Sandy Springs theaters, as well as at a new North Metro venue, the Regal Medlock Crossing Stadium 18 in Duluth.

“The audience demand for the AJFF has been overwhelming. Movie buffs and non-movie buffs alike crave the type of original, provocative, enlightening films that we bring to Atlanta,” said AJFF Executive Director Kenny Blank. “In response, we are pleased to offer an even greater selection of films, now with more dates and locations to see them.”

The 2008 AJFF will feature an inspiring collection of more than 40 evocative, original and visually-stunning films that explore various aspects of the Jewish experience. A cinematic celebration of heritage and history, the AJFF emphasizes great storytelling and universal themes that attract Jewish and non-Jewish audiences alike.

Founded in 2000, the AJFF has quickly grown in size and reputation, with an estimated attendance in 2008 expected to top 12,000 moviegoers. Screenings are supplemented by guest speakers, providing a dynamic forum for audience dialogue with actors, filmmakers, academics, authors and other expert panelists. Moviegoers cast their ballots for the Best Narrative and Best Documentary film of the Festival, with winners receiving the AJFF Audience Award. The AJFF has been recognized with prestigious grants from both the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) and the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA).

The Atlanta Jewish Film Festival (AJFF) is presented by the Atlanta Chapter of the American Jewish Committee, the country’s oldest human relations organization, to support its mission of “building bridges of understanding” across community lines. Since its founding in 2000, the AJFF has enjoyed robust growth across all fronts, including attendance, audience diversity, community visibility, depth and quality of programming, and sponsor participation. The Eighth Annual Atlanta Jewish Film Festival will be held January 16-27, 2008.
