The Atlanta Section of the National Council of Jewish Women will sponsor a viewing of the film, Iron Jawed Angels, starring Hilary Swank and Frances O'Connor, at the Marcus Jewish Community Center, August 22, from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
Iron Jawed Angels recounts for contemporary audiences a key chapter in U.S. History. The film depicts the struggle of suffragists who fought for the passage of the 19th amendment. These two activists broke from the mainstream of the women's rights movement and created a more radical wing daring to push the boundaries of political protest to secure women's voting rights in the 1920s.
Pat Pugrant will have the "The Legacy Quilt, Women of Valor" on display. More than two years in the making, the quilt illustrates the lives of eleven exceptional women whose advocacy for women's rights and social justice in Atlanta between 1850 and 1950 stands as a legacy for today's generation.
This is an exceptionally timely event because of such a crucial election approaching. The forthcoming election will affect women's rights for years to come, and the film brings home the sacrifices that were made in order for women to have the right to vote.
Guests should arrive by 1:30 pm. Because of other events at the Community Center, there will be a shuttle from Georgia Perimeter College at the corner of Womack Rd. and Tilly Mill Rd. We look forward to seeing you, and please remember to bring your family and friends.
