Support Group Connects Inside and Outside Muslim Community
The Community Support Group at the Atlanta Masjid of Al-Islam is an outreach program that counsels and supports Muslims and non-Muslims. The faith-based organization advises clients on problems including marital issues, substance abuse, financial difficulties, post-traumatic stress, health crises, and youth-related challenges.

Is it too much to suggest that we should make choices like Ruth and the Canaanite woman--decisions to live beyond our own selves, to take on risks that benefit others, and to set in motion a story which has powerful implications for generations?

New Course: Power, Faith, and Civic Leadership
A new course in church leadership will be available this fall to students at Faith And The City's three partner seminaries--Candler, Columbia, and ITC--and to students at Georgia State University. The advanced seminar, "Power, Faith, and Civic Leadership," will examine practices of power in local communities of faith and the larger community. It will draw on concepts from theology, behavioral and social sciences, public policy studies, and civic politics. The course is offered by the Interdenominational Theological Center, in cooperation with Columbia Theological Seminary and the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies at Georgia State University.

New Certificate Program: Church and Community Ministries
Master's degree students at Candler School of Theology now can earn a certificate in studies that include the methodologies of church-community partnerships and tools for developing reconciling ministries. Students in the program will track legislation through city, state and federal governments to renew their understanding of the legislative process. They will learn how to inspire collaborations between their congregations and foundations, local government, non-profit agencies, and other community organizations to encourage social change.

Faith Alliance of Metro Atlanta Sponsors Events
The new Faith Alliance of Metro Atlanta, still in the process of forming, has scheduled a July 10 luncheon meeting for all interested parties and a September 11 interfaith worship service that will be open to the public and will include Georgia Governor Roy Barnes and Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
