Interfaith Disabilities Network Fosters Inclusion and Accessibility

The Interfaith Disabilities Network (IDN) is a non-profit organization representing persons of faith who have developmental and physical disabilities, mental illness, hearing impairments, and sight impairments. IDN operates under the auspices of the Atlanta Alliance on Developmental Disabilities (AADD), a 46-year-old initiative that works to improve the quality of life for all people with developmental disabilities.

The current debates about Jesus' Lordship aren't so much bad debates as misplaced ones; it's not that the debates go in the wrong direction, but that they don't go far enough in the right ones. For it's not a matter of getting the words right, but of living into all the implications of those words for our lives. It's not a matter of accepting or rejecting monarchical language, but of exploring the way that language actually functions to describe Jesus and his relation to the world.

News: Atlanta's Abu-Akel Elected to Top Presbyterian (USA) Post
Press Release, Holy Land Christian Ecumenical Foundation
Reverend Fahed Abu-Akel, a Palestinian Christian Arab from Kuffer-Yassif, Galilee, Israel and presently a minister at the First Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, Georgia, has been elected by 296 votes as Moderator of the 214th General Assembly of the 2.5 million member Presbyterian Church of the United States. In this position, Reverend Abu-Akel will lead the Presbyterian Church in the United States for the next year.

Events: Faith Alliance of Metro Atlanta Luncheon Meeting and Worship Service
The new Faith Alliance of Metro Atlanta, still in the process of forming, has scheduled a July 10 luncheon meeting for all interested parties and a September 11 interfaith worship service that will be open to the public and will include Georgia Governor Roy Barnes and Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.

Event: Specialist in Islamic Fundamentalism to Speak, Preach in Atlanta
A leading Pakistani scholar, Dr. Asaf Hussain, will visit Central Church (UCC), August 10-11. Dr. Hussain will host a conversation about Islamic fundamentalism on Saturday morning and deliver a sermon on Sunday.
