Event: 5th Annual Interfaith Health and Human Service Conference
Theme: "Human Life and Health: Our Sacred Gifts--Our Sacred Responsibility". There will be a variety of Best Practices Sessions offered: Grant writing and program evaluation; Sessions on Men's, Women's and Children's wellness; Substance abuse and treatment; Understanding the needs of individuals with mental illness; Honoring the ability in disability; Effective approaches to counseling. Imam W.D. Mohammed will deliver the keynote address during the awards banquet on October 11,2002 beginning at 6 pm.

The Georgia Avenue Food Cooperative Feeds and Uplifts

Each year, the Georgia Avenue Church distributes more than 100 tons of food to needy families who are likely to have difficulty buying necessary groceries, at least from time to time. Through its community ministry, the Georgia Avenue Community Ministry Inc., the church extends a "hand up" to 200 neighboring homes in the Grant Park/Summerhill area. The outreach ministry's largest program, the Georgia Avenue Food Cooperative, includes members working together to feed their families and, in the process, enjoy spiritual fellowship and fulfillment.

Emory Receives $10 Million for New Ph.D. Program
Emory University Press Release, September 17, 2002
Emory University's Candler School of Theology has received a $10 million grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. to build an internationally recognized model doctoral program in practical theology and religious practices. The move is expected to help change the course of graduate education in religion and improve the training of a new generation of ministers and religious leaders.

Mark Your Calendar: "Abraham" Author Bruce Feiler to Visit Atlanta
Bruce Feiler, author of "Abraham: A Journey to the Heart of Three Faiths" and "Walking the Bible," will visit Atlanta November 18th for an event sponsored by the Faith Alliance of Metro Atlanta in cooperation with Faith And The City. The visit will include activities open to the public. Details will be provided at a later date.
