Feature: Series Organizers Hope Events Spark Friendships Across Religious Lines

This year, a small series of events succeeded in bringing together Muslims and non-Muslims into real dialogue with each other. Diverse Traditions--Common Ideals: Building Interfaith Bridges of Friendship sponsored five events; each encounter was unique. Three different neighborhood dialogues targeted members of Atlanta's faith communities, people who otherwise might not be meeting. Afterward, the interfaith dialogue was taken into an international context with visiting Muslims. Lastly, participants began to make real plans to nurture budding friendships and working relationships on their own.

Recall the words printed boldly across Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s door: "To Redeem the Soul of America." Environmentalists of faith believe that finding communion with the natural world is an integral step in that journey.

Announcement: Faith And The City Forum TV Program Features Special Dialogue on Diversity with Eric Law

Faith And The City Forum, the cable TV program, will feature a special, one-on-one interview with Rev. Eric H. F. Law, a prominent consultant on building inclusive communities. The program, hosted by Steen Miles, is scheduled to air in Faith And The City Forum's usual time slots, 7:30 a.m. Tuesdays and 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays. Part I will be broadcast at those times on November 4-5; Part II will air November 11-12. Parts I and II will repeat during the third and fourth weeks of November, respectively. Faith And The City Forum airs on Atlanta Interfaith Broadcasters cable channels.

Announcement: New Book by Faith And The City Associate Director at ITC Advocates Larger Role for Social Sciences in Parish Ministry

Dr. George B. Thompson's most recent book, Treasures in Clay Jars: New Ways to Understand Your Church, published in November 2003 by Pilgrim Press, is an introduction for ministry students to the social sciences as resources for interpreting the dynamics of local congregations. "One of the paradigm shifts necessary for effective parish ministry is away from psychological models and toward social scientific models," the author maintains.

For more than a century, the Parliament of World Religions has gathered representatives from the world's religions for dialogue and sharing. In 2004, more than 10,000 people from all traditions and all parts of the world are expected to gather in Barcelona, Spain, July 7-13.
