The following questions are offered to encourage discussion of this important public issue.
1. Could the cause of peace be better served if the global community, through the United Nations, guaranteed the security of both North and South Korea, as one panelist suggested?
2. What should the role of the United States be in diffusing the crisis on the peninsula? The role of the United Nations?
3. Do you agree with the panelist who suggested North Korea must be presented with a means of Òsaving faceÓ if that nationÕs cooperation is to be secured?
4. Some panelists agreed that U.S. military service historically have enjoyed a positive experience in Korea. Have you or has anyone you know served in Korea? What was your experience or theirs?
5. One panelist, who has family in North Korea, explained that he has lost family members to starvation. Are we as faith communities called to help end hunger and disease in North Korea and, for that matter, the world? Do you, as a member of a particular faith tradition, have a responsibility to help ease the suffering and tension on the whole Korean peninsula?
6. Has this program or the associated discussion of the issue led you to any new ideas, insights, or resolve regarding this issue. If so, what will you do differently?
