First Aired: June 10 at 7:30 AM

Faith And The City Forum is one of several initiatives by Faith And The City, a nonprofit organization that works to encourage a sense of community throughout the 20-county metro Atlanta region by amplifying the voices of the many religious traditions represented in the region.

Panelists:

Ms. Sandra El-Amin
Director
Mohammed Schools

Rabbi Louis Feldstein

Dr. Jamil Zainaldin
President
Georgia Humanities Council

The following questions are offered to encourage discussion of the above topic.

1. Where should the children of our society receive their primary instruction and guidance in moral and ethical behavior? In the schools, homes, communities of faith, or elsewhere?

2. What is the role of each institution -- school, home, community of faith -- in imparting moral education to our children?

3. Is there a "breakdown of the moral fiber" of society today, as one panelist suggested? Why or why not? If so, is this true today more than in the past? Or is there simply as another panelist suggested, simply a "diversification of the discussion?" Please explain your answer.

4. What role does the increased secularism of our society played in the moral education of our young people?

5. What impact does modern technology have on moral education -- especially television, film, and the Internet?

6. Are people less sensitive toward each other today? Is there less civility toward others? Why or why not? If so, how does this affect our sense of community, our interdependence on one another?

7. Is there too much emphasis on self, on looking out for "number one?" Does this result in less respect for others and less regard for our individual responsibilities to our community and the larger society?

8. Has this program or the associated discussion of the issue led you to any new ideas, insights, or resolve regarding this issue. If so, what will you do differently?

There is a quick and easy way to express your view on any public issue to our elected and appointed leaders: You can find email addresses for hundreds of leaders from the local to the national level by visiting the "contacts" section of our website at http://www.faithandthecity.org.
